In the arts, the costume or the costume designer is in charge of costumes, whether for shooting film or a play or opera.

He can design them to perform in the studio (as in the case of historical costumes), in which case it is also considered as a stylist, or buy them when it comes to modern clothing. He works closely with the art director and / or production designer from models of sets, the costumes are usually designed together to coordinate them.

Clothing accessories such as shoes, Wedding Jewellery , bags, gloves, caps and hats of all kinds, are part of the costume.

According to their specialization or scale of production, the costume may be responsible for all or only part of the costumes (wardrobe male or female only). In the film, the head of the department is called costume designer.

He is responsible for teams of other trades such as sewing (dealing with the manufacture or rework), clothing (which helps maintain the costumes and the actors to dress), the shoemakers, the milliners, glove makers, etc..

The work of costume is rewarded by various awards including the Oscar for best costume design, the Costume Designers Guild award the Cesar for Best Costume or Molière’s costume designer.
